About

In case anyone is looking for the various files related to the AKAA, this is going to be the repository for them. If you find problems with them, please drop a note or fix them.

What are all these weird filetypes?

I have used Free and Open-Source software to create all the images and designs and logos. By using software like this you do yourself and society a favour. Imagine not looking over your shoulder when you start-up your less than 100% legal software. Imagine not having to part with R8,000 - R10,000 to simply own a licence and a shiny CD.. And best of all, imagine being able to freely give copies of the software to all your friends, that's freedom!

(You can read more about Freedom and Software at - http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/philosophy.html)

The programs that I used are:

Inkscape
A vector drawing program like CorelDraw or Freehand or Illustrator.
Filetype: .svg (Standard Vector Graphics) .eps (Encapsulated PostScript) .pdf (Portable Document Format)
I use all these formats (repeating the same file) so that there is a format for your software to import/open.
The best solution is to get Inkscape - http://www.inkscape.org/
The Gimp
A bitmap editor like Photoshop.
Filetype: .xcf (Native format) .png (Export as a single layer with alpha) .psd (Photoshop format: on request only)
Get it here - http://www.gimp.org/
OpenOffice.Org
A totally fantastic Office suite. You get a database, a word processor, a spreadsheet, a presentor and other good stuff. I used it to create a letterhead letter-sized document template that you can simply load and start typing AKAA-related letters on. When you then email the file (or print it out) the backdrop will have the graphics and logo included. Get it at - http://www.openoffice.org/
There is also a version of the letterhead for MS Word, but I cannot test it because I don't own Word (It was saved from Writer.)
