HOW YOU CAN ASSIST WITH THE AFRICAN PENGUINS
Even if you don't house penguins in your facility, perhaps put a display to draw attention to their plight. If you have an empty exhibit, make it look really empty, and put a sign on it saying “Where have all the penguins gone?” Arrange an awareness generating event—penguin art, fun waddle/walk—the mind boggles at the possibilities Link animals in your facility to the plight of the penguin—links could be based on so many things—over fishing (SASSI), web of life link, oil pollution, carbon footprint etc.
Support initiatives that take care of the birds such as SANCCOB. What else can you think of? Let us know and we will put it in the newsletter.
There is a new conservation award that will be given to an AKAA member annually. Details to follow in the next edition. In the meantime, let us know what you or your peers are doing conservation wise. We would also love to publish stories about what you have done on our website and in the newsletter, so please drop us a line.
For the penguins and all other worthy beasts.
Even if you are inland, the penguins are a part of the web of life. To draw attention to the fact that everything must occur in a balance, and all actions affect all animals on the planet is imperative to the planet as a whole. It is not only what is on our doorstep. The doorstep is just a gateway into the whole ecosystem. SO GET CREATIVE. Do what you do best. Care about all the creatures in our modern day ARKS—together we are the caretakers of creatures on the planet who no longer have a wild that is perfectly enabled to support them!!!
