March 2012 Newsletter (1.73 mb)
December 2011 newsletter (2.5mb)
In Africa, and particularly in South Africa, soccer is all the rage. Vuvuzelas are blowing wildly and yellow t-shirts are celebrating with fervour. Personally I love the celebration, but cannot watch the games. It is far too stressful—because someone has to lose. I remain proudly South African, but not in a territorial manner. It is lovely to be proud of one’s country. And it is great to see that all the hard work that has been happening in our country is paying off. We are receiving great publicity abroad, and foreigners I have met and chatted with here are having a blast. Not surprising—South Africa rocks. Africa rocks. We live, as Desmond Tutu so eloquently puts it—in the cradle of humankind.
Sadly, the oil pouring over the Mississippi delta and the volcanic ash over Europe have been two environmental disasters that are bitter pills to swallow. Simply a reminder that we have so much to do in our capacity to educate and inspire people through our work. BELOW 3-5-0. If you are not sure what this means, check out information on climate change. It is easy to teach messages such as this and we can do it because we interface with eager students (in the shape of our guests) everyday.
Don’t forget that if you want to submit anything to this newsletter—adverts for happenings in your area, articles, fun stuff, reports, suggested feature creatures—do it. We all want to know what you are up to. Paws, Claws, Fins and Scales is your newsletter—use it!.
Laduma—till next time.
